Nestled within Zhongxin Village, Longmen County, Huizhou, the Osmanthus Yard project by Atelier Wen'Arch stands as a testament to the seamless integration of modern architectural design with historical context and natural beauty. This installation, part of the 'Nankunshan-Luofushan Rim Pioneer Zone (Huizhou) Architectural Art Project', thoughtfully revives a marginal terrace, respecting its rich past while forging a new identity. The project's location is intrinsically tied to its narrative. On its western flank, a venerable Qing Dynasty Feng Shui wall, an ancient well, and a centenarian Osmanthus tree stand as silent guardians of history. These historical markers, alongside fragmented retaining walls that delineate the former village boundary, informed the architectural approach. The eastern side of the terrace, once home to collapsed residences and chicken coops, presented a canvas for transformation. The surrounding dense Lingnan forest, with moss-covered cliffs and a subtle elevation change, further enriched the site's character, inspiring a design that harmonizes with every nuance of the landscape.
Reimagining Historical Boundaries and Natural Elements
