Jiuyao Kindergarten, a brainchild of ZHUBO Design, redefines early childhood education in Shenzhen's bustling Futian District. Completed in 2024, this innovative project transforms a highly restricted urban plot into a vibrant and imaginative 'small world' for children. The architects' vision was to craft an environment that actively engages young minds, departing from the conventional, often restrictive, perception of educational institutions. Despite the significant spatial limitations, the design prioritizes creating an enriching and playful atmosphere, proving that even within a dense urban landscape, a stimulating educational haven can flourish.

The architectural team, led by Feng Guochuan, faced the challenge of fitting comprehensive educational facilities and recreational areas into a compact site adjacent to a golf course. This constraint necessitated a highly efficient and creative use of space, pushing the boundaries of traditional kindergarten design. Instead of viewing the limited area as a hindrance, the designers embraced it as an opportunity to innovate, developing a multi-functional and aesthetically pleasing structure that maximizes every square meter for the benefit of its young occupants.

The core philosophy behind Jiuyao Kindergarten is to cultivate an environment that sparks curiosity and encourages exploration. The design intentionally avoids the rigid, institutional feel often associated with schools, opting instead for an open, fluid layout that seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor learning opportunities. For many years, the Minamicho House served as a silent witness to countless family stories and everyday moments, holding within its walls the essence of generations. The current owner, despite residing overseas, harbored a deep emotional connection to this ancestral property, inherited through his lineage. This profound attachment made the thought of selling the house untenable, sparking a desire to find an alternative solution that would honor its legacy.

The Innovative Kariage Framework: A Path to Renewal

Faced with the dilemma of preserving the cherished family home without the burden of direct management, the owner discovered ROOVICE's pioneering Kariage framework. This ingenious system offers a unique solution by facilitating the renovation of vacant properties and subsequently subleasing them. This model allowed the Minamicho House to be revitalized and made habitable once again, ensuring its continued existence and purpose, rather than falling into disuse or being sold. The framework provided a bridge between past sentiment and future utility, allowing the house to retain its distinct identity and historical significance while adapting to contemporary needs.
