This extensive renovation addressed the challenges posed by the house's considerable age and numerous previous alterations, creating a cohesive and harmonious environment.

Despite the inherent limitations of the building's modest footprint and its complex history of modifications, the architectural team faced the significant task of optimizing the existing structure. The objective was to ingeniously reconfigure the layout to accommodate a demanding spatial program, which included the provision of six comfortable bedrooms, an expansive and highly functional kitchen, and a generous main living area designed for both intimate family interactions and larger social gatherings.

In the vibrant city of Selangor, Malaysia, the Tropical Shift House, a remarkable residential project completed in 2024, redefines tropical living. Conceived by the talented teams at O2 Design Atelier and Choo Poo Liang Architect, with Edric Choo Poo Liang as the lead architect, this expansive 9038 square meter property stands on a unique paired strata. The client, deeply committed to environmental stewardship, deliberately allocated one of the two abutting lots to be an untouched private garden, a verdant sanctuary contrasting with the constructed residence. The design ethos centers around a 'double articulation': a precisely engineered mass of fair-faced concrete that elevates and organizes the living spaces for a family of five, alongside an open ground that invites natural processes and acts as a serene interface between the building and its broader natural context.
